Top 5 weirdest questions I had on a tour

Alright, first of all, as a tour guide, I LOVE having questions on my tours! I really do! Questions shows interest and curiosity, which are excellent qualities that every traveler should have. Almost all questions I get from my guests on my guided tours are perfectly legitimate questions that drives conversations. However, once in a while, I get these weird questions that give me this face:

what did you say?

Staying professional

When I get these questions, I try, I much as I can, to stay professional and maybe find the ”real” question behind the ”weird” one. There is no stupid question as they say, right? Maybe I get these questions because of a lack of knowledge about Quebec City and the Quebecois culture. To be honest, even if I get ‘’stupid’’ questions, I’m still glad I get them! If someone has a misconception about my city or my culture, it’s my job to explain and give the correct information.

I just think and it would make a funny blog post to share with you my top weirdest question I had on a tour. If you are reading this and say: ‘’Hey, that was my question!’’ well, sorry!

Disclaimer: I’m a native French speaker.  English is not my first language. I learned English at school, but I mostly learned it by watching to The Simpsons and listening to rock/metal music. So, I might have made a few mistakes in this blog post.  If I did, please tell me, its the best way I can improve!

1-”When is Canadian Christmas?”

I was guiding a group of 4 cruise ship passengers on Canadian Thanksgiving, which is about 1 month before the American Thanksgiving. When one of the ladies on the tour realized that Thanksgiving is not the same date as in the US, she then asked me when is Canadian Christmas. I know that Christmas is not celebrated on the same day around the world but, just the expression ”Canadian Christmas” made me laugh… I was not able to stay professional on that one!

2- ”Do you have Amazon up here?”

Yes, Amazon ships to Canada too…. And we do have Ebay and Uber…and electricity.

3-”Why does Canada have an army?”

For the same reasons as your country…

4-”Is Québec part of the European Union?”

The person thought Quebec is a member of the European Union because we speak French… Euhhh… what?

5- ”It is so nice that you managed to keep your French accent after all this time! How did you do it?”

What if I told you that in fact, I speak French, as a first language, just like 8 million Canadians?

Please remember that I wrote this blog post just for fun and I always LOVE having questions on my tours! I know my guests have a good sens of humor.  I just think and some questions are funnier than others!
