So, I might have made a few mistakes in this blog post. If I did, please tell me, its the best way I can improve!
Ice fishing in Quebec
The perfect family winter activity
As soon as it gets cold enough, most of the time in January, the ice covering lakes and rivers get thick enough and the ice fishing season can officially begin! In the winter months, fish stay active to get through the cold season. As a result, families and experienced fisherman can catch trout, yellow perch, and walleye. It’s a very festive activity and the opportunity to meet your friends and loved-ones. Because of that, ice fishing is definitely a tradition in Quebec and in Canada.
Experience ice fishing around Quebec City
There are numerous places around Quebec City, where it’s possible to experience ice fishing such Expédition Mi-Loup, Pourvoirie du Lac Beauport, Réserve Faunique de Portneuf, Station touristique Duchesnay, etc. However, there is one place, located directly in Old Quebec, where you can get familiar this amazing activity without having to plan any kind of transportation. This place is Village Nordik, in the Old Port. It is situated just behind the Old Port Farmer’s Market . Over there, the friendly staff will lend you all the proper equipment you need and guide you through this ‘’ice fishing village’’. Just put on your warm winter clothing and let’s go!
This place is so unique that it’s hard to put into words. So, I invite you to watch this video that I’ve made last winter. In this video, you will see my brother, Guillaume and myself enjoying a day of ice fishing at Village Nordik. You will also meet Gustave, our only catch of the day!
Ice fishing on a Custom Tour
Last winter, a group of French tourist contacted me and wanted me as their tour guide. So, I designed a Custom Tour for them and I included the Village Nordik to our walking tour our the city. I thought it would be cool for them to give it a try! It turns out they had a blast! They were so impressed to see all the families having fun, despite of the cold weather. Quebecois don’t fear winter, they embrace it.
